As you gain political knowledge, you will develop a valuable collection of study skills. In tackling each module, you will need to learn to assimilate demanding topics quickly and accurately, and you will learn how to analyse and respond to political strategy and debate persuasively in written and oral forms.

You will be assessed through exams, written and oral presentations, group work and an extended dissertation of approximately 12,000 words. You will also be required to complete additional assignments throughout each term and to strict deadlines. In all these areas you will need self-discipline, academic rigour and an open mind to succeed.

The lectures, seminars and the Departments' supportive staff will only take you so far in your political and economics training. You must assume responsibility for your learning and engage fully with your major/minor degree. You must also take advantage of the many opportunities within the departments to develop your academic rigour and professionalism so that, upon graduation, you are perfectly positioned for the next stage of your career.

You will be assigned a personal tutor throughout your degree course, who will help you with any problems or queries, whether these are academic-related or personal issues. You should feel free to contact them at any time for help and advice.

You will also have the opportunity to complete a Personal Development Plan (PDP) at Aberystwyth. This is a structured process of self-appraisal, reflection, and planning, which will enable you to chart your personal, academic and professional development throughout your time at university. By recording your academic performance, and highlighting the skills you already have and those you will need for future employability, the PDP portfolio will equip you with the necessary tools to plan effectively, develop successful approaches to study, and consider your future career options and aspirations.
