What will I learn?
In the first year in Physics, you will study classical and modern physics, underpinned by the core mathematical disciplines of algebra and calculus. Further modules in classical dynamics, laboratory physics and the forces of nature will complete your core training in the essential foundations of physics. In Business and Management you will be introduced to some of the key concepts and contemporary issues associated with the study of management and organisations, and to the dynamics of the modern business environment and the main forces largely responsible for shaping and reshaping it.
In the second year in Physics you will study thermal physics, mathematical physics, experimental physics, quantum mechanics, and data handling and statistics. In Business and Management you will examine contemporary issues in human resource management, and explore current and critical thinking in organisational analysis, relating these to recent developments in the contemporary workplace.
In the third year your core Physics modules include condensed matter, electromagnetism, numerical methods, semiconductor physics and applications, and atoms and molecules. You will also undertake a project in which you will investigate a problem of an experimental, theoretical, data analysis, instrumentation or computer modelling nature under the supervision of a member of the academic staff. In Business and Management you will analyse the core concepts and frameworks in business strategy, critically evaluate issues in the business strategy process, and explore the role of business within communities while considering how far innovation and risk-taking is constrained by the environment in which businesses operates.
How will I be taught?
You will be taught through a complementary set of teaching and learning methods and approaches, ranging from formal lectures, seminars and tutorials to workshops, laboratory practicals and individual and group-based project work.
You will be assessed through a combination of essays, coursework, presentations, lab reports, lab diaries, and examinations.
You will be assigned a personal tutor throughout your degree course, who will help you with any problems or queries, whether these are academic-related or personal issues. You should feel free to contact them at any time for help and advice.
You will also have the opportunity to complete a Personal Development Plan (PDP) at Aberystwyth. This is a structured process of self-appraisal, reflection, and planning, which will enable you to chart your personal, academic and professional development throughout your time at university. By recording your academic performance, and highlighting the skills you already have and those you will need for future employability, the PDP portfolio will equip you with the necessary tools to plan effectively, develop successful approaches to study, and consider your future career options and aspirations.

Everyday Physics enhances your understanding of the universe and everything we experience. Passionate scientists inform you of their contributions to science at the forefront of physics. Your time is split between gaining hands-on laboratory experience using exciting equipment including lasers, oscilloscopes and spectrometers, and lectures that will inspire and interest you. Each module challenges your intelligence and allows you to gain knowledge that most people benefit from but do not know exists. Students achieve excellence, and stretch their minds. It requires time and effort, but the skills and understanding you gain are second to none. Sarah Chandler
Studying Business and Management at Aberystwyth University has enabled me to develop my understanding, and better appreciate the world in which we all live and work. With a limited understanding of Business and Management prior to studying, I have benefited greatly from this course, and the ability to select and choose which route I best want to follow. Through a range of in-class and interactive learning sessions my passion for the subject has flourished. Peter Hamilton-Gray
