Our BSc in Psychology with integrated study abroad, will enable you to discover another culture and life in another country whilst at the same time expanding your knowledge of Psychology. Our Single honours, BPS-accredited Psychology degree is designed to develop and shape your understanding and provide you with skills that will enable you to continue to study after graduation, or find employment straight away. You will work and engage with lecturers who use their significant experience, and their own research to create an inspiring learning environment in which you can develop your own thinking in safe and supportive department.

The department has outstanding teaching and research facilities dedicated to your course. The laboratories and dedicated research spaces provide you with a diverse array of facilities and equipment with which to explore. These resources allow you to develop your interests, and engage creative problem-solving techniques as you progress towards your graduation.

  • Welsh Language: If you are a Welsh-speaker you have the opportunity to continue part of your studies in Welsh. You’ll find bilingual staff in Psychology who will support you in your work, and who can guide your university experience in Welsh. 
  • This course is identical to its sister course C800, however you will have an additional year of funding to undertake your year industry. If you are unable to obtain a work placement, you can simply transfer to our three year sister programme. Students who take part in the year abroad will pay a discounted tuition fee, of which the information can be found here

What will I learn?

Psychology provides us insights into human behaviour. You will study the origins of the subject and how research has shaped and changed it and how it has developed into the modern science it is now. 

The breakdown below will provide you with an illustration of what you may study during the four year degree scheme.

During your first year, you may: 

  • discover modules which cover topics such as social and individual behaviour, psychobiology and cognition, and research methods and historical issues in psychology
In your second year, you may:
  • Tailor your degree to your interests and future career goals by choosing from our exciting range of specialist optional modules, such as: 
  • Health psychology
  • Psychology and Psychology of Counselling
  • Coaching and Mentoring 

In your third year you will undertake your year abroad in an international University.

In your final year you may: 

  • Forensic Counselling 
  • Drugs and Behaviour 
  • Psychology of Humor
  • Evolutionary Psychology
  • You may also will apply your research and analytical skills by completing a research dissertation on a topic of your own choosing, with support from your supervisor. 

How will I be taught? 

We deliver our courses through lectures, tutorials, seminars and workshops. We offer our students specialist laboratory facilities for research including eye trackers, a sound attenuated chamber, an EEG and biological measurements lab and a dedicated developmental laboratory. You will gain hands-on experience using the very latest equipment. 

Our modules are assessed in a number of ways which include examinations, presentations, essays and workshops. 

You will be assigned a personal tutor throughout your degree to help you through any issues you may have and direct you to any opportunities.
