Why study BSc Social Science at Aberystwyth University?

  • The Department of International Politics which administers the degree programme is regarded as world leading and internationally excellent, and we are the best in Wales with our pioneering Research (Ref 2014). 
  • Please note that the Department of International Politics administers the programme but much of the teaching takes place across the Institute You will be taught by lecturers who are enthusiastic, committed in providing you with an outstanding and dynamic learning environment. Our BSc Social Science will prepare you with the skills which are necessary for a wide range of employment sectors across the professions including: 

  • Health and social work
  • The public sector 
  • Management 
  • Research 

The employment rates for social science graduates are far higher than those who have studied STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) or the arts and humanities. In addition, there a higher proportion of social science graduates are in managerial and senior official roles than are graduates of STEM or arts-humanities subjects.

What will I learn?

The breakdown below will provide you with an illustration of what you may study during the three year degree scheme.

In the first year you will learn about:

  • By the end of your final year you will have produced a social science dissertation on a subject of your choice.

 How will I be taught?

  • We deliver this degree through the medium of lectures and seminars.
  • We will assign you a personal tutor who will be with you throughout your degree and who will help you any problems whether these are academic-related or personal issues. 
  • You will be assessed through examinations, course work and presentations.
