If you are interested in a subject that is exciting, dynamic and one that will combine elements of consumer behaviour, psychology, management, human resources and culture of the Spanish Language, then the Aberystwyth's Spanish with Marketing degree is for you.

Upon studying Spanish with Marketing, you will have the opportunity to explore the changing use of information technology and digital media for marketing purposes and develop your language competencies and knowledge of Spanish culture. In addition, you will also have the opportunity to spend a year abroad in any Spanish speaking country. 

Aberystwyth University is an accredited Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Graduate Gateway centre, which means that you can study towards a CIM qualification whilst studying for a degree, or gain exemptions for certain CIM modules.

Why study Spanish with Marketing at Aberystwyth?

  • Our programmes are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
  • On successful completion you can apply for exemption from 50% of the CIM Professional Diplomas.
  • You can opt to study the Spanish element of this course from beginners (minimum GCSE in Spanish) or from Advanced (a continuation from A level or equivalent.
  • All students studying Spanish will receive four hours per week of linguistic development which includes Speaking, Reading/ Writing, Translation and Listening.
  • Our degree equips you with the multidisciplinary understanding of marketing which employers increasingly demand.
  • You will also have the opportunity to study optional modules in the Department of Modern Languages which include Spanish Literature and Film, European Language, Culture and Identity, Linguistics (to name a few).
  • As well as being taught by native speakers or experts of the Spanish language, the Marketing element of this degree will be delivered by professional Marketers who are well-known and leading in their respective research area and sector.  
  • All student studying the Spanish with Marketing degree will spend their third year studying abroad in one of our partnered Universities within Spain or other Spanish speaking countries or opt to undertake a paid or non-paid work experience placement. The year abroad is a highlight for all students.
  • We have arrangements with many partner universities overseas to deliver short academic programmes (2 weeks) to small groups of management and business students (on a self-funding basis), to enable you to experience the impact of the cultural environment when conducting business abroad. We currently have partner universities in India, China, Russia, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and Brazil and our portfolio of countries is rapidly expanding.

What will I learn?

The breakdown below will provide you with an illustration of what you may study during the four year degree scheme.

During your four years at University, you will receive Spanish language classes which will include:

  • Oral;
  • Written;
  • Translation;
  • Aural.

In the first year you will discover:

  • Fundamental principles of marketing;
  • Marketing in a business context;

  • Elective modules may include: European film language and identity in Europe to name a few.

In the second year you will explore:

How will I be taught?

Our students are taught through lectures, small-group seminars and tutorials.

We assess our students through examinations, assessed essays, projects, reports, reflective diaries, portfolios and presentations. The coursework will develop your capacity to research, analyse and present an argument clearly and coherently, while seminars will help you hone your presentations skills.

You will be assigned a personal tutor throughout your time at Aberystwyth University. This person will assist you with all matters relating academic and non-academic.
