What accommodation is available?

What preferences do you get when applying to accommodation?

You can choose between mixed gender accommodation and same-sex accommodation.

We also have accommodation in Pantycelyn and in Fferm Penglais for those students who speak Welsh.

We are hoping that in future we will be able to offer more options such as accommodation for mature students and also designated Quiet blocks.

Is the accommodation provided by the university all on campus for first year?

All the university accommodation is on or near campus. 

Cwrt Mawr, Trefloyne and Rosser are all on campus. Fferm Penglais and Pentre Jane Morgan are across the road from the main campus.

Which accommodation is the best?

Which area (eg Rosser, Pentre Jane Morgan) tends to be the most popular choice, if any of them are?

Fferm Penglais, especially the Studios, tends to book up first, but it varies from year to year.

What Welsh Medium Residences are available?

We have dedicated accommodation available for students who are Welsh speakers or learners and would like to live in a Welsh speaking environment.

Is there accommodation available for students with accessibility / disability / health conditions?

The University welcomes students with accessibility / disability / health conditions and endeavours to put appropriate support in place.

Please ensure you include this information on the Accessibility / Disability / Health section on your Accommodation application form.

With your consent, we will then pass this information onto the Accessibility Services within Student Support who will assess your needs. Evidence will then be required to support your application. Once this has been passed to Student Support, they will review it and advise us on the most appropriate type of accommodation for you.

What is adapted accommodation?

There is adapted accommodation in Fferm Penglais, Pentre Jane Morgan and Pantycelyn. In Pentre Jane Morgan there are 2 of the accessible houses have a fully self-contained flat including a washroom and adaptable kitchen with a carer's room next door should it be required. How many bathrooms are there in the shared facilities. And is the toilet and the shower/bath sperate or together?

This really depends on the different accommodation and size of the house/flat.

Is University Accommodation available over the summer?

We do offer University Accommodation over the summer however, you will need to apply for it and you may be required to move out of your term-time residence.

Where can I get food if I am living in catered or part-catered accommodation, or if I have a meal plan option?

You are able to get food from any of our University outlets; please see the Hospitality Services webpage for a list of all outlets. 

Can I live with a friend?

You can coordinate applying for accommodation with a friend so you can live in the same accommodation.

Can I live with my partner in university accommodation?

No, all of our residences are single occupancy and therefore cannot be shared – we do not offer family accommodation.

Additionally, we cannot provide non-registered students with accommodation. 

Do students get to stay in halls all through the 3 years course?

We only guarantee accommodation to first year students, but we do have a small number of rooms that are set aside for returning students in their second or third years. These are chosen on a first come, first served basis and we do not guarantee returning students a place in university halls.

What are the contract lengths?

For most undergraduate students contract lengths are 33 weeks (Pantycelyn), 39 weeks (PJM, CWRT, Rosser and Trefloyne) or 40 weeks (Fferm Penglais).

Nursing students have a 48-week contract.

Post graduate students can have a contract of up to 50 weeks.

Is one of the halls dedicated for international students?

Cwrt Mawr is mainly designated for international students with some rooms allocated to our other residences.
